For non-kanji using countries, one of the biggest hurdles would be the character system of Japan. Hiragana and Katakana can be easily studied compared to kanji. So what I would like to present here is the kanji breakdown method. Other people have been ahead of me on this, but for the sake of better memorization, I’m just repeating what they have already studied more than me.

A kanji basically can be broken down into elements. The technique that works most of the time (if not all the time) to remember a kanji’s meaning is by:

1) assigning a keyword to one kanji

2) break the kanji into parts (or elements)

3) Review

With this method, study becomes more systematic than by just directly looking at a kanji, remembering the strokes by repetition (which I believe is also valid, but is just the longer road to kanji study. ).
